About the role

Job Summary

As a Product Manager, you are experienced in product management practice having guided multiple product enhancements from inception through to implementation and optimisation. This involves multiple internal/ external stakeholders, and you drive product strategy, roadmap and the execution for your area. You work mostly with other members of product team - UX designers, Analytics, Senior Product Managers and engineers, as well as with your product stakeholders.

You will be responsible for

In the Store Stock and Shelf Edge Management team, you will:

  • Evolve and drive the product vision, strategy, and the long-term roadmap for my product and execute it well by constantly managing my stakeholders expectations, working through dependencies across multiple products/ teams.
  • Proactively partner with peers and senior stakeholders to set the future direction of my product as part of the wider business strategy.
  • Understand key user personas, customers & stakeholders for the product and their pain points really well.
  • Be accountable for the performance/ adoption of the product and work towards achieving the Outcomes and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Prioritise work and decisively resolve trade-offs with peers and senior leaders.
  • Understand and demonstrate all of the features of my product to different audiences within and outside of my immediate product team.
  • Write user stories, create backlogs and set priorities.
  • Effectively document and explain new requirements to the engineering team using user stories with acceptance criteria and help the team in breaking down complex work into smaller, deliverable chunks of value that can be delivered faster.
  • Steer sprint / release planning sessions by working with the engineering counterparts to plan sprints/ releases that deliver maximum business value in least effort.
  • Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product teams and engineering stakeholders.
  • Be accountable for the performance/ adoption of my product and work towards increasing it.
  • Lead discovery work around minimum viable product (MVP) for any new product/feature, collaborating with user experience (UX) and engineering teams to prototype and validate the MVP.
  • Prioritise coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues independently.
  • Provide leadership and direction to cross functional team (s) on short-term tasks/ near-term priorities.
  • Work with your customers and stakeholders to define the problem space and requirements.
  • Have ownership for simplifying the way that our store colleagues manage stock and shelf edge in stores in the UK, Ireland and Central Europe working with our International team to ensure alignment.
  • Work with Product Managers in API teams to build out the features that are required to support the replacement solution in line with the Tesco technology strategy.
  • Work with our Engineering colleagues to align with the strategy for developing and deploying a single, group repeatable version of the Apps that can be used globally.
  • Provide leadership and direction to cross functional team (s) on short-term tasks/ near-term priorities.
  • Monitor competitor activity and overseas market trends.
  • Provide support and coaching to junior Product Managers as well as peers.
  • Present to other Tesco Product areas on my Product and its functional/ engineering capabilities.

You will need

  • I have applied UX/UI disciplines and principles to the products I work on, making sure I design a product that is intuitive and easy to interact with for the customer
  • I have leveraged different research techniques to produce robust and compelling results.
  • I know how diverse personas or customer groups perceive, understand and experience my product in different ways.
  • I write hypothesis statements and work directly with optimisation managers and/or engineers to set up and execute experiments.
  • I know how large technology systems should interact with each other and track health metrics (uptime, SLOs, response time, etc).
  • I am involved in setting the vision and strategy for my product area and develop and baseline my product's OKRs.
  • I engage with and am actively involved in market research, leveraging insights to shape the vision and strategic direction of the product in line with business and Technology goals and customer expectations.
  • I am skilled in using various data types in different situations and know when to use quantitative and/or qualitative data.
  • I apply the concepts of machine learning and AI to the products I create, working with data scientists and engineers to deliver value through product.
  • I understand large scale data platforms and how they can increase the scalability, availability, performance, and security of my organisation’s data.
  • I understand the Product Management lifecycle, product delivery process and the importance of an Agile mindset to discover, design, define, develop and deliver small increments of the most important opportunities that will drive growth and value for my product.
  • I understand the importance of using data to prioritise and adopting a consistent approach to prioritisation.
  • I know how to use relevant tools to produce and update roadmaps for my product
  • I understand the importance of a product roadmap in creating buy-in from stakeholders and other teams.
  • I understand my business, including the key commercial drivers, business metrics and performance indicators, and can play a part in the decision-making process.
