About the role

We’re now looking for a Lead Maintenance Manager to take ownership of Maintenance delivery across the South East region, supporting around 450 stores and ensuring exceptional service, strong operational standards, and a safe, functioning estate.

The Hiring Manager for this role is Jorge McCallum.

You will be responsible for

As a Lead Maintenance Manager, you’ll be accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of Maintenance across the South East region. You’ll lead a team of up to 10 Maintenance Managers and around 150 multi‑skilled technicians, setting the tone for safety, service, and performance every day.

You will:

Lead Maintenance Delivery

  • Oversee Maintenance operations across c.450 stores, ensuring a safe, legal, and fully functioning estate for customers and colleagues.

  • Drive safety initiatives and campaigns that improve compliance and reduce risk.

  • Deliver critical asset availability through daily operational reviews, diagnosing issues and recommending solutions using your technical expertise.

Lead, Develop & Inspire Your Team

  • Lead, engage, and develop a diverse team of Maintenance Managers and technicians across the South East.

  • Raise performance standards through regular 1‑2‑1s, coaching, and development conversations.

  • Take responsibility for your own development and support the growth of your team.

Deliver Operational & Financial Excellence

  • Review team workload and capacity to ensure efficiency, prioritisation, and business continuity.

  • Deliver strong financial control across fleet, headcount, overtime, parts, general repairs, capital, and budgets.

  • Provide clarity on forecast and budget changes, using excellent judgement and analysis.

Drive Change & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the creation and delivery of programmes and projects that improve Maintenance performance.

  • Deliver plans from 3 months to one year, with measurable impact at 6 months.

  • Own KPI delivery and support improvement where targets are not met.

Build Strong Relationships

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, building trusted relationships across the South East region.

  • Manage expectations and escalations from Store Directors and attend Regional Director meetings.

  • Take accountability for Maintenance delivery across the South East, ensuring consistent standards and service.

  • Ensure compliance with all audit requirements.

You will need

  • Experience leading remote Technical or Maintenance Management teams.

  • Strong background in Retail, Facilities, or Manufacturing Maintenance management.

  • Proven people leadership and development skills.

  • Experience leading and implementing change programmes.

  • Technical or Maintenance Engineering appreciation/experience.

  • A passion for delivering safe, legal, and operationally excellent environments.
