About the role

You will be responsible and accountable for designing and building AI and Digital capabilities for Tesco group, ensuring colleagues have the specialist AI and digital capabilities, expertise and confidence required to innovate, enable efficiencies and adapt to  deliver value in a rapidly changing retail landscape.

You will design and manage learning content that builds AI and digital capabilities as part of the broader AI plan for the group focused on ensuring colleagues have the right level of understanding and confidence in using AI and digital to drive a cultural shift and ensure mass adoption of AI.

This role goes beyond traditional learning design and incorporates end to end needs analysis as an enterprise level, data analysis (both internally and externally) and best in class design and delivery of learning content that enables behavioural change. You will help shape long-term skill investment, and support the lead learning manager to influence and engage with senior stakeholders, ensuring learning delivers measurable business impact.

You will be responsible for

Strategic Learning Management:

  • End to end AI and digital learning contend design and deployment - defining, scoping and building digital skills learning which will be deployed across different colleague audiences, aligned to Tesco’s business and AI strategy.
  • Partner with key stakeholders including talent, workforce planning, capacity planning and technology teams to shape content and learning solutions.   Anticipate future skills needs and translate them into scalable, sustainable capability solutions for the business
  • Shape long-term capability roadmaps that balance immediate business demand with future readiness.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, challenging and shaping new ways to think about learning, behavioural change and mass adoption of AI
  • Shape and build the end to end skills framework and learning experience for both colleagues and leaders – AI and digital

Stakeholder & SME Partnership

  • Act as a trusted and credible partner to senior business leaders, technical experts and functional heads.
  • Shape learning solutions to AI and digital priorities collaboratively, ensuring strong business ownership and relevance.
  • Enable subject matter experts to contribute effectively to capability building without overreliance on them.
  • Seek to foresee future trends in AI and digital and use these to influence learning content and design

Learning Design & Delivery

  • Design and own blended, scalable learning solutions (academies, pathways, credentials, on-the-job learning, champion networks and communities of practice) launching learning interventions across the group.
  • Use external data and insight to inform the solutions, ensuring Tesco is leading the way in building AI and digital capabilities
  • Ensure learning is practical, role relevant and embedded into ways of working—not standalone training
  • Be the subject matter expert for AI and digital capabilities at Tesco – influencing content and decisions from own expertise and knowledge
  • Ensure the right measures are in place to evaluate return on investment
  • Partner with comms and people change teams to develop and launch moments to drive advocacy and adoption of AI across the business.
  • Where relevant manage relationships with external vendors.

Teamwork

  • Partner with all learning managers, seek clarity, direction, and shared purpose by translating strategy into meaningful, achievable objectives
  • Contribute as a team player to create a positive, inclusive, and psychologically safe team environment.
  • Demonstrate collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement by role-modelling our Win Together behaviours and values
  • Plan and prioritize the things that matter most – ensure strong shared delivery as a team

You will need

  • Significant experience designing enterprise level capability solutions, not just individual learning interventions.
  • Significant experience in learning, capability or workforce development roles, with exposure to technical or specialist skill domains.
  • Proven ability to design learning strategies aligned to growth priorities.
  • Proven ability to build capability aligned to strategic business priorities.
  • Strong understanding of deploying learning at scale, across wide audiences in a different and meaningful way
  • Exposure to digital, technology, digital customer engagement or other complex technical domains.
  • Ability to engage and gain sign off for large scale learning solutions for a wide range of different audiences (channels vs office, UK vs markets)
  • Experience operating in large matrix organisations.
  • Familiarity with accreditation, certification or professional standards in technical disciplines.
  • Leadership development theories and practices
