About the role

We are on the lookout for a Procurement Manager to join our Technology team within our Corporate Services function here at Tesco. As a Procurement Category Manager, you will lead the commercial delivery of your categories, including sourcing, contract renewals, negotiations, and ensuring supplier performance. The role sits within our Global Technology Procurement team, supporting the delivery of secure, innovative, and cost efficient technology across Tesco.

You will focus on achieving value for money and improving efficiency throughout the procurement lifecycle. Working closely with colleagues, you will help shape a robust procurement strategy that balances business needs with safety, legal compliance, technology advancements, total cost of ownership, and environmental impact. This position offers full ownership, fast paced delivery, senior leader visibility, and the opportunity to influence major technology investment decisions.

You will be responsible for

Category and Supplier Strategies:

  • Strong awareness of the IT/Technology supply market with procurement knowledge across Functional / Digital Applications.
  • Develop & deliver sub-category plans aligned to Category Plans by being innovative and leveraging market intelligence and risk assements, in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams

Commercial Excellence & Cost Optimisation:

  • Run RFPs, RFIs, contract renewals, and supplier selection processes.
  • Build commercial models, identify savings opportunities, and manage category budgets.
  • Lead full lifecycle procurement process across global Opex and Capex including negotiations with suppliers across Software, Cloud, Cyber, Retail Tech, or Infrastructure.
  • Leveraging data, benchmarking, total cost of ownership (TCO) modelling, usage/consumption analytics, and contract optimisation tools.
  • Tracking and reporting savings, cost avoidance, efficiency gains, and commercial risk reductions across the portfolio.
  • Contract creation, review, and negotiation.

Supplier Relationship Management (SRM):

  • Owning strategic supplier relationships to drive performance, innovation, continuous improvement, and alignment to our ESG and digital strategies.
  • Leading contract governance from award through implementation, renewal, and performance review.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Security and Compliance teams to ensure suppliers meet required standards, including cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI, and ethical sourcing.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Work closely with Technical, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure seamless procurement activity.
  • Ensuring adherence to procurement policies, financial governance, regulatory obligations, and sustainability commitments.
  • Ensuring contractual structures support operational resilience.

You will need

  • Years of experience in procurement or technology related commercial roles, with experience managing sourcing events and contracts.
  • Sourcing process excellence, negotiation, commercial analysis, supplier performance routines, tool proficiency (eSourcing, CLM, analytics). 
  • Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology sourcing projects.
  • Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management.
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills.
  • Good reporting skills for projects, saving forecatsing and governance reporting.
  • Experience in category management and strategy development, including building multi-year technology category plans.
  • Understanding of responsible procurement practices, sustainability frameworks, and ethical technology sourcing.
