About the role
A unique opportunity has arisen for a Senior Assistant Designer ready to step up, or an established Designer to join our Ladies Nightwear team. This is a part-time role, working three days a week, with a minimum of two days based in our Welwyn Garden City office.
We’re looking for a creative, commercially minded designer with a strong background in Nightwear or ladieswear. You’ll bring a keen eye for detail, a distinctive design handwriting, and a track record of delivering successful, fashion-forward product.
You’ll report directly to the Lead Design Manager, and play a key role in shaping the creative direction of the department. You’ll be a confident communicator and influencer, able to take stakeholders on the creative journey and present seasonal strategies with clarity and impact. Collaboration is key – you’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to drive the department forward.
This is a fast-paced, fashion-driven environment, so we’re looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and thrives in a team setting.
You will be responsible for
• Identify and translate key trends into commercially successful nightwear designs.
• Set the graphics direction for each range, working closely with Graphic Designers to develop compelling prints and artworks.
• Collaborate with the Lead Design Manager, Assistant Designer, Buyer, Merchandising, and Technical teams to ensure ranges are balanced and commercially viable.
• Create accurate technical briefs and manage the sample process to ensure ‘first sample, right sample’ standards.
• Analyse sales performance to inform future design direction and identify opportunities.
• Own the design critical path, supporting trend, development, and production timelines to meet key deadlines.
• Present seasonal concepts and strategies to stakeholders with confidence and clarity.
You will need
• Availability to work Tuesdays to Thursdays, with at least two days in the Welwyn Garden City office.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; PowerPoint and CLO 3D experience is a bonus.
• Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and print techniques.
• Ability to create detailed technical briefs and communicate design intent clearly.
• A collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in mentoring and developing junior team members.
• Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven experience in designing Ladies Nightwear or ladieswear trend product for the UK market (jersey or woven background).
• Strong commercial awareness and a passion for innovation and trend research.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver innovative, high-performing designs to tight deadlines.
