About the role

My job is to lead and continuously improve the Group’s transactional banking and treasury operations, ensuring secure, efficient, and well-controlled processes that deliver robust, resilient, and customer-focused treasury services.

You will be responsible for

  • Act as the Group SME for transactional banking and treasury operations, driving process optimisation across cost, liquidity, security, service, and customer experience.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationships with all third party suppliers of transactional banking activities including, but not limited to, card acquiring, cash collection and processing, cash management, and outgoing payments.
  • Be the "go to" business partner across all of Tesco for transactional banking advice and recommendations, enabling collaboration between business stakeholders, Tesco's Global Business Centre and suppliers. 
  • Stay up to date on the latest trends in transactional banking, ensuring alignment with internal and external policies and regulations, while identifying opportunities to improve processing capabilities across the Tesco Group.
  • Ensure treasury operations are fully compliant with internal policies, external regulations, and audit requirements, maintaining a strong control environment. 
  • Maintain treasury process documentation and oversee the Treasury Business Continuity Planning (BCP) framework. 
  • Represent Tesco in industry forums and maintain strong relationships with regulatory and trade bodies (e.g. BoE, FCA/PSR, BRC). 
  • Working as part of a cross-functional team to define and drive Group payment strategies, utilising the Group overview of 'what works well' to enhance other parts of the business.

You will need

  • Drive continuous improvement across key operational areas to ensure outstanding efficiency and effectiveness
  • Lead third-party supplier relationships for card acquiring and cash processing, establishing detailed collaborations to benefit our financial operations.
  • Provide trusted advice and recommendations across Tesco, working closely with business units, partners, the Global Business Centre, and suppliers to resolve the best course of action.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring alignment with policies and regulations while finding opportunities to improve processing capabilities.
  • Maintain a robust control environment, ensuring treasury operations adhere closely to internal policies, external regulations, and audit standards.
  • Coordinate treasury process documentation and own the Treasury Business Continuity Planning (BCP) framework, ensuring that we are prepared for any eventuality.
  • Attend industry forums as a Tesco representative. Form relationships with regulatory and trade bodies like BoE, FCA/PSR, and BRC.
  • Collaborate on payment strategy development and implementation, applying tried methods to improve broader business areas successfully.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of customer payments and cash management, consistently driving impactful results.
  • Strong industry network across card acquirers, banks, and card schemes, allowing us to compete at the highest level.
  • Confirmed experience in control, BCP, and treasury process optimisation, ensuring our operations are industry-leading.
  • Well established supplier leadership and service delivery management skills, crucial for maintaining our high standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, and relationship-building capabilities, encouraging a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting to support strategic decisions, enabling us to make informed choices and drive our business forward.
