About the role
At Tesco, we pick and deliver over 40m cases a week for our customers. Supplying stock to our stores and fulfilment centres. We are always looking for ways to serve our customers a little better every day, whether that is by improving the way we pick our stock to how it arrives in store.
The Project Manager will be responsible for owning the deployment of continuous improvement methodology and supporting change culture throughout Distribution!
You'll work on building and embedding operational capability, structure and focus to enable managers and their teams to identify and solve daily problems together in a consistent, timely, engaging and effective way!

Crucial: Applicants must drive, have access to a vehicle, and have willingness to travel to Tesco Distribution Centres around the UK.
Location: Time will be spent in our Tesco Distribution Centres as required each week dependent on the project’s needs. Time will also be spent in our office locations.
You will be responsible for
- Working within Distribution to lead streams of work designed to support, improve and transform our Distribution Centre operating model ensuring we always serve customers, communities, and planet a little better every day.
- Responsible for full project management and delivery, from conception to deployment; working across our operational areas as required.
- Applying technical knowledge from processes and make Continuous Improvement relevant to the local area (being the link between Continuous Improvement theory and practical application within operational teams) through educating, coaching and supporting peers and their teams.
- Bringing external market knowledge and insight and share with leadership teams, using this insight to further support the development of a relevant and future fit Continuous Improvement Plan.
- Assess the effectiveness of the current operational model to meet current and future business objectives, identifying improvement areas across both the Packaged and Fresh Distribution Teams.
- Ensuring clear definition of the project and scope from the start, ensuring the project always remains on track and in scope.
- Engaging with customers across Tesco, and externally, to deliver the project objectives and deliver measurable improvements.
- Crafting clear implementation plans and timelines and presenting these optimally.
- Planning and overseeing projects, coordinating sources and processes to deliver results on time, within budget and with the desired outcomes.
- Prioritising and engaging with the relevant subject matter authorities, leading and motivation them to supply to project delivery.
- Leading, reporting, and mitigating risks and issues and following governance processes
- Driving delivery and regularly updating collaborators and leaders on progress and results.
- Taking ownership of processes and systems, making sure they are effective and efficient; you spot issues and swiftly find the simplest solutions.
- Understanding how technology is key to the future of Tesco, making sure digital is part of key decisions.
- Closing projects down once complete and completing post implementation reviews, to understand the lessons learned, sharing these with partners and ensuring continuous improvements on ‘the what’ and ‘the how’ is in place.
You will need
- Project Management experience, ideally in a Retail, Logistics, Distribution, Ecommerce, or similar environment e.g., Manufacturing, Engineering.
- Experience delivering successful high-value large-scale sophisticated projects from inception to completion.
- Confident in delivering multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Exceptional customer management ability, with experience leading sophisticated networks.
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills are vital to navigate changing environments whilst keeping focus on project aims.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills (written and verbal), with the ability to challenge and influence others to achieve the project outcomes.
- Excellent customer leadership skills across all business grades
- Self-motivated with a clear sense of ownership and an ability to follow through steadfastly to resolve issues.
- Support peers and their teams to find opportunities to improve team processes and ways of working and to build a CI pipeline.
- Support their peers on CI related improvements and projects and help with identifying benefits.
- Absorb learning on CI Principles & Tools from CI Coaches. Apply learning on CI tools and methodologies within teams.
