About the role

Tesco Online is the biggest Online grocer in the UK and one of the largest in the world. Our Fulfilment Operation is fundamental to supporting the success of Online, and the greatest lever in achieving our profitability objectives. This role is focused on the overall development of our Grocery Home Shopping operation. As a project manager you will translate strategy into action, executing plans brilliantly and working collaboratively and cross functionally with multiple stakeholders. You will typically lead multiple projects or be a subject matter expert.

You will be responsible for

  • Ensuring Tesco project management principles are followed including stakeholder management, set up/organisation of the project, budget set up/controlled with cost savings delivered and communicating with/motivating natural work team members. - Ensuring clear definition of the project and scope from the start, ensuring the project always remains on track and in scope. 
  • Allocating resource and engaging with relevant subject matter experts, leading and motivating them to contribute to the delivery of the project. 
  • Managing risk and issues, setting up and leading a clear governance programme. - Managing interdependencies and any potential conflicts, working with others to deliver the project objectives/scope and for the good of customers, colleagues & planet. 
  • Designing a clear implementation programme, working with the people and communications teams as required. 
  • Monitoring progress of delivery and updating stakeholders including business leaders on the deliverables. 
  • Achieving great results by inspiring, engaging and leading others; you make our customers and colleagues feel valued. 
  • Knowing your stuff, sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm, the way you manage makes Tesco a great place to work and shop. 
  • Taking ownership of processes and systems, making sure they are effective and efficient; you spot issues and swiftly find the best simplest solutions. 
  • Understanding how technology is key to the future of Tesco, making sure digital is part of key decisions. 
  • Being flexible in your approach, you are able to manage various projects and programmes of work across different areas within Online improving different parts of the shopping trip for customers or simplifying our operations with new initiatives.
  • Closing projects down once complete and completing a post implementation review, to understand the lessons learned, sharing these with stakeholders and ensuring continuous improvements on ‘the what’ and ‘the how’ is in place.

You will need

- Experience of executing a full project lifecycle

- Strong strategy and proposition development as well as analytical skills

- Ability to bridge between strategic thinking and pragmatic implementation

- Advanced project/programme management skills

- Strong stakeholder management ability 

- Excellent commercial acumen and understanding

- Strong communication and storytelling skills (written and verbal)

- Ability to influence at all levels

- Experience in using advanced project management methodologies 


- Retail operations

- E2E Project Management experience including management of a complex network of stakeholders 

- Experience working in or delivering projects in a Fulfilment environments.

- Budget management and commercial acumen

- An inquisitive outlook and growth mindset

- Record of effective joint business planning and delivery of cross-functional initiatives from concept to trial and roll-out

- Experience of broad stakeholder management, including executive levels and developing networks beyond your function

- Strategy formulation, business development, corporate development in and e-commerce / Retail context

- Experience sizing business opportunities and creating then tracking business cases
