About the role
Technical Programme Managers (TPMs) are responsible for delivering complex, cross-functional technology programmes that directly contribute to ensuring colleagues can serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering, Operations, and business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.

You will be responsible for
You will be responsible for delivering critical infrastructure elements of the Scan Assist Programme, focussing on leading the delivery of the core network components and managing the team alongside vendors to achieve this at pace and scale. This is a key, strategic programme, focussing on reducing shrink at Tesco stores through the Scan Assist solution. The scope of this role includes delivering remote network changes, managing the installation of network hardware, managing our core network vendors and collaborating with other teams within the Scan Assist programme to ensure delivery remains aligned.
Overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
- Lead a team of internal colleagues and vendors to deliver the network changes that enable the Scan Assist solution.
- Drive planning and delivery, providing direction to the network team and ensuring delivery priorities are understood across organisations.
- Collaborate with internal infrastructure teams to maintain infrastructure standards and ensure these are maintained by vendors.
- Proactively manage risks and issues that impact an individual stream of network changes or impacts the network programme overall. Working with teams to identify risks and agree effective mitigation plans and, devise solutions to issues that arise during delivery.
- Engage appropriate teams and resources to drive effective decisions and delivery. This includes ensuring governance processes are followed to ratify decisions and plans.
- Financial management of the network programme to enable ‘on budget’ delivery. This includes providing monthly forecasting of spend vs actuals to the Scan Assist programme lead.
You will need
An ideal candidate must have demonstrated below key skills and experience in their current and past roles:
- Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology and infrastructure programmes; having done so across multiple teams in large scale customer facing organisations.
- Experience of implementing network changes and hardware in a Retail context is advantageous.
- To be a proactive problem solver, with good technical experience - able to facilitate collaborative solution definition. To demonstrate a flexible, ‘can do’ attitude – able to motivate teams and deliver prioritised business outcomes in challenging circumstances.
- Have experience of building credible relationships and influencing senior management & leadership teams
- Strong project planning, Stakeholder & Programme management skills.
- Minimum of 2+ years of programme delivery leadership. With experience of managing delivery across internal and external teams.
- Strong vendor management and negotiating skills.
