About the role

As a representative of the customers, you are responsible for improving the value of the Product (platform) that the team is in charge of. You will collaborate with your team members, leaders, and coach to prioritize initiatives aligned with the organization's strategic goals. You should have strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with collaborators throughout the company to understand their priorities and any dependencies that may affect the Product. You should be passionate about gathering insights from users, customers, and consumers to understand their needs. You are encouraged to set a clear and inspiring vision for your product and make decisions to shape the Product backlog and guide the team. You should have a good understanding of the retail and/or telecoms industries and the role your platform plays in delivering value to customers. Your team members' expertise will provide the necessary support to deliver high-quality work as a cohesive unit. Embracing the opportunity to learn and test your assumptions, you will ensure that the team focuses on the right priorities to maintain a secure platform and drive innovation for customer value. Within the Product Chapter, you will work with the Chapter lead to enhance your skills as a Product Owner and support your peers in the chapter to strengthen the overall capability.

You will be responsible for

  • I understand my Product and make decisions about its development to ensure we meet Product and Team objectives and key results.
  • I understand our industry and keep abrest of key developments. I understand our critical systems and platforms.
  • I understand the impact my platform has on our customers' experience; their needs and problems influence my Product roadmap.
  • I collaborate with technical and business collaborators to gain a shared understanding of needs and goals. I consider dependencies, risks and value at stake in my prioritisation decisions.
  • I define and monitor important metrics for my Product, and I have a plan to continuously improve value, scalability, robustness, and alignment with product objectives.
  • I know Scrum and can easily integrate it into my team. This includes all the necessary elements like core ceremonies, clear roles and responsibilities, shared purpose, product vision, and a well-defined product backlog.
  • I set and iterate our Product vision in collaboration with others in my squad and community.
  • I build and maintain a clear roadmap for my product that is aligned to user and customer outcomes. I work on this in collaboration with my squad and other SMEs as needed.
  • I am skilled at writing user stories and follow the INVEST principle. I am familiar with story mapping techniques to build cohesive product features. I actively engage with collaborators early for feedback.
  • I understand Tesco Mobile's architecture including how my platform fits into wider Tesco Mobile systems and processes. I actively prioritise squad time to move us towards our target architecture and use data and insight to balance this with ongoing platform maintenance.

You will need

  • Curiosity, desire to understand users and customers, and a capacity to learn fast
  • Experience working in an agile organisation, with a working knowledge of Scrum methodologies, tools and practices
  • Previous Technical Product Management or Technical Product Ownership experience, or experience working in an adjacent technical role.
  • Experience with architecture patterns such as Microservices architecture, Serverless and Cloud computing, RESTful APIs etc.
  • Experience of working on data platforms and a working knowledge of data engineering and architecture
  • Critical thinking; ability to establish a clear vision, prioritise, and develop a roadmap to achieve it
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills using data and insight
  • Ability to manipulate data (e.g. in Excel)
  • Ability to confidently communicate with a variety of collaborators, including both technical and non-technical individuals
