About the role

As part of the press office team, help build trust in the business and mitigate reputational risk by responding to media enquiries, writing statements and Q&As, managing filming requests and briefing spokespeople ahead of interviews.

You will be responsible for

  • Handling media enquiries and ensuring accurate, rapid and well-crafted responses
  • Working collaboratively with Group Communications and wider business to ensure relevant teams and stakeholders are engaged on media opportunities, issues and risks
  • Managing and communicating on a portfolio of issues including preparing communications plans and Q&As ahead of planned business activity.
  • Spotting, sourcing and generating proactive stories to help land positive media coverage - Maintaining effective relationships with key journalists and media outlets
  • Maintaining effective relationships with other external stakeholders and agencies, where necessary
  • Reviewing filming requests and managing shoots where needed
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
  • Supporting the press office outside of normal working hours as part of on-call rota

You will need

  • Excellent communication skills
  • An in depth knowledge of the media landscape in general and the ideally retail sector specifically. Ability to build relationships with journalists
  • A can-do, collaborative approach, ability to multi-task
  • Experience of working under pressure and at a fast pace
  • Ability to identify potential reputational risk
  • Experience dealing with journalists from national, local and trade outlets.
  • Experience managing agencies and working with other external stakeholders.
  • Experience of building internal stakeholder networks
