About the role

We have a unique opportunity available for an Engineering Standards Manager to join our team and be a part of a growing culture leading and developing the building technical standards that enable the delivery and maintenance of the Tesco building portfolio.

You will be responsible for

Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence and have these specific risk responsibilities:

  • Find opportunities to innovate, develop and improve building assets.
  • Develop world class building standards which support the delivery of the annual Property plan including new builds and maintaining/refurbishing existing properties.
  • Leading and chairing Building Standards Governance.
  • Work multi-functionally in partnership with my peers and key collaborators to ensure the accurate interpretation and delivery of technical standards.
  • Understand building asset performance and work with colleagues to identify and explore root cause issues which inform the Property Investment plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the building sector, both for the benefit of Tesco and the wider industry. Including reducing embodied carbon in construction and the application of sustainable materials.
  • Ensure right quality and value for money is a key focus of all actions in technical standards.
  • Develop strong relationships with industry guides, colleagues and stakeholders, energising and influencing others to deliver great results.
  • Staying up-to-date on changes within the construction industry including attending trade fairs, industry events and engaging directly with suppliers.

You will need

  • MRICS or MCIOB
  • Degree or similar qualification in the built environment
  • Proven track record in the building sector with sound theoretical and practical experience
  • Experience in developing and launching building standards/specifications
  • Experience in applying industry standards/legislation
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation
