As Lead Nature Manager, you will be leading a team of colleagues passionate about the development and delivery of Tesco Group's Nature Strategy, including leading all aspects of the development of our new suite of Nature Partnerships and leading our engagement with international reporting and measurement frameworks.

The role will cover a breadth of topics within nature as we focus on delivering impact at catchment scale, looking specifically at: protecting and restoring natural habitats, supporting balanced freshwater use, preventing freshwater pollution, protecting wildlife, improving soil health and improving air quality.

You will be responsible for

  • Being our subject matter authority on nature, biodiversity, water, soil and air quality, particularly in a food system context.
  • Leading the development and implementation of Tesco's Nature Strategy, ensuring it aligns with our broader sustainability goals, focuses on tangible outcomes for nature and biodiversity throughout our domestic and international supply chains.
  • Co-developing ground breaking initiatives to deliver nature-based solutions from piloting to scale-up, collaborating with our Sustainable Agriculture team, our Climate team and our suppliers.
  • Supporting Tesco's catchment-based landscape programmes and partnerships, particularly in key sourcing areas (UK, Spain, South Africa, and Peru).
  • Leading Tesco's engagement with key international nature reporting frameworks and initiatives, including Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures and Science-Based Targets for Nature.
  • Working with product category teams to embed our strategy within commercial practices, from supplier management to product ranges and customer communication.
  • Supporting the Nature Partnerships Manager to develop, budget and implement a comprehensive Nature Partnerships programme, including identifying and building lasting relationships with charities, environmental NGOs and consultancies.
  • Representing Tesco on a number of cross-sector customers groups with environmental NGOs, government, other retailers and suppliers, to advocate for a nature-positive food system

You will need

  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Exceptional partner management, internal and external.
  • Budgeting competence and commercial understanding.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field (e.g. environmental science, ecology, sustainability, biodiversity).
  • Proven experience in sustainability, preferably in retail, FMCG or food industry.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability principles.
  • Experience working within the environmental NGO sector
