About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to drive the strategy and day-to-day execution of payment acceptance at the UK’s largest retailer. You will be a domain expert at Tesco for customer cash payments in-store, traversing partner and team boundaries, managing trade-offs, and able to collaborative confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.


Our Payment product development teams are responsible for payment experience and processing for all Tesco markets globally. Our products are helpful, efficient, safe, and rewarding. Our portfolio of payment products include card payment readers and cash acceptance in-store, digital checkouts, payment a Tesco Technology Retail Platform. Specifically, this job will be as a Product Manager for cash payment.

You will be empowered to deliver with gateways, payment history, and our Tesco wallet. You will initiate product discovery and identify opportunities to deliver increments that are desirable for customers and colleagues, technically feasible, and viable for the Tesco business. They will be obsessive about the role of payments play in customers’ lives and how payments impact customers’ overall experience with Tesco.

The Payment product development team are a cross functional Agile team of engineers, product managers and programme managers, based within Tesco Technology. We work from office locations in the United Kingdom (London and Welwyn Garden City), India (Bengaluru) and Hungary (Budapest). Be part of a payment and retail transformation. Join us!

You will be responsible for

  • The product manager will proactively partner with their cross functional colleagues to set the long-term direction of their product in line with market, industry, and organisation to drive product strategies
  • Will navigate ambiguity by leaning on strong product principles and organisational values to decisively prioritise work to resolves trade-offs with their peers and senior leaders.
  • Effectively documents and breaks down complex product requirements and acceptance criteria to enable their product development teams via stories and epics.
  • Steers sprint planning and relevant agile ceremonies with their engineering counterparts to deliver value with optimal risk and effort.
  • Will drive the adoption of ideas and new product concepts with their key cross functional stakeholders.
  • Will independently co-ordinate live issues for their product.
  • Provides leadership and direction to their cross-functional team on short term and long-term priorities.

You will need

  • Demonstrable understanding of modern product discovery practices in collaboration with colleagues from engineering, operations, UX and other disciplines.
  • Proven experience of constructively handling conflicting priorities to focus stakeholders, engineers, designers and leaders.
  • Demonstrable familiarity with various techniques to understand their user via research techniques and interviews.
  • A proven understanding of using quantitative and qualitative data from setting a strategy all the way to executing and managing stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in the use of tools and techniques for prioritisation and managing dependencies.
  • Has delivered scalable, resilience transactional services in a retail environment (in-store)
  • Be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique or valuable to our product teams.
  • Experience working with devices and peripherals used in a retail environment, ideally cash self-service or closed loop cash solutions.
  • Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach (legacy, tactical, strategic) and trade-offs in development choices.
