About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Talent and Capability Practice of Expertise (POE). In this role you will support the design and delivery of a group wide leadership and talent development strategy for Tesco, that equips leaders with the right skills, behaviours and values to deliver our strategic priorities and lead an inclusive and high performing culture.

With significant experience in end to end leadership and talent development for senior leaders and talent pools, alongside experience of creating and implementing aligned and meaningful development strategies that enhance Tesco culture and how it is role-modelled, you'll be a thought leader in this area and be able to balance a more strategic perspective with delivery of future fit solutions.

You'll need proven senior and Exec level stakeholder management experience and will be able to influence and drive engagement and agreement for group wide programmes of work.

You will be responsible for

  • Contribution to the overall leadership, talent development and culture strategy, designed to ensure we build strong pipelines of leaders for now and the future, in service of our long-term strategic priorities.
  • The successful delivery of an innovative and leading edge leadership development offer that cultivates an inclusive, high performing and future focused culture.
  • Building future capabilities skills and values required of our leadership population, ensuring a sustainable and high quality and value add learning offer is developed.
  • Addressing collective and bespoke development themes identified through our talent strategy and for our high potential talent pools.
  • Undertake a learning needs analysis for senior stakeholders and talent pools to identify the immediate and long term gaps. Use latest thinking and external insight / connections to inform the work, ensuring best in class interventions.
  • Support the broader delivery of the group capability strategy, aligning leadership development and culture to our core manager and colleague learning offer in order to realise our long term vision for learning at Tesco.
  • Embed Inclusion into everything we do, aligning our leadership and culture plans to the group DE&I strategy, ensuring delivery of shared priorities
  • Working in partnership with the talent management team to help build a talent development blueprint, understand talent pools and address key themes
  • Develop a blueprint for the end to end talent development process, including identification, appropriate touch points and robust tracking, evaluation and monitoring
  • Work with the other POE teams to ensure alignment and support of strategic priorities (OD, Grad and development programmes etc)
  • Manage the end to end Exec coaching offer, ensuring a diverse pool of expert coaches to support improvements in performance and capability of senior leaders and future talent, tracking and monitoring success and value add.
  • Source and use data to make informed decisions around priorities and focus, feeding into the broader group capability plans for leaders and managers
  • Lead and manage the core director learning curriculum, which includes director’s induction. Ensure learning is regularly reviewed and updated and the best partnerships are created to deliver content that aligns to our biggest opportunities and strategic priorities.
  • Source tailored development for senior leaders, which could include external mentoring programmes, coaching or professional business schools. Keep tabs on the latest qualifications and partners in this space
  • Champion and role model our Win Together behaviours and values, contributing to a cultural change programme across the Tesco group, building solutions that will drive cultural change across Tesco
  • Deliver and facilitate online and face to face learning events with senior stakeholders and leaders across the group.
  • Report on the programme management of all centrally managed leadership development programmes ensuring they're delivered within agreed timescales and budget
  • Critically review and evaluate existing development solutions and make sound recommendations for changes
  • Share evaluation data back with relevant stakeholders
  • Partner across markets and with senior stakeholders to ensure the central management development offer is embedded effectively across all markets
  • Work with the capability partner team to ensure functional capabilities are incorporated into the overall leadership development strategy
  • Work with learning tech / tech teams to ensure all content is inclusive and accessible, and support and inform the long term learning tech plans.

  • Engage and manage relationships with external partners in line with internal standard process, ensuring they deliver value for money
  • Maintain expertise and continued professional development, bringing thought leadership into everything you do.
  • Be agile and responsive to the changing needs of the business and colleagues we serve

You will need

  • Setting group wide strategies and gaining engagement, buy-in and sign off at exec level
  • Proven cultural and behavioural change experience across the whole learning cycle LNA, design, delivery and evaluation at senior leadership level
  • Strong learning design across a variety of formats and levels - virtual, blended, online, both working with suppliers and building in-house solutions
  • Proven understanding of diversity and inclusion challenges and opportunities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current leadership and exec development interventions, providers and thought leaders in common areas of leadership (finance, commercial acumen etc)
  • Strong network of talent / development specialist to draw on external standard process
  • Senior stakeholder management, in particular building trusted relationships with a diverse group of international stakeholders
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of the latest learning trends and how people learn
  • Ability to think beyond the here and now - connecting learning to the wider business context.
