TESCO Grocery home shopping is a market leading e-commerce business in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Central European markets of TESCO. They take accountability for complex and strategic products, and are empowered to drive the product strategy, the roadmap, and the outcomes. Driven by curiosity and innovation, coupled with strong partnership with Business, Engineering, User Research and Data Science teams, our product managers create value for our Customers and Businesses across all markets.

 

As part of the Grocery home-shopping technology team, we are looking for a Principal Product Manager with extensive domain expertise and high levels of passion and energy to transform the end-to-end customer experience across the key online digital channels of TESCO grocery shopping (website and shopping app), for multiple customer propositions, including Home Delivery, Click & Collect and On-Demand/Rapid Delivery Service.  As Principal Product Manager, you will be a thought leader in the online shopping experience for Tesco, with ownership of the relevant digital products within this portfolio across all markets that Tesco operates in. You will drive the combined global vision, product strategy, roadmap, and execution for solving customer problems and delivering high value at scale. You will also contribute to the wider strategy of the online business. As a Principal Product Manager, you will be an integral part of the product leadership team, engaging with technology and business leadership teams, including executive leaders.

You will be responsible for

  • Drive the global product vision, strategy, and execution for online grocery shopping experience at Tesco, working closely with the Heads of Product across many areas.
  • Be a thought leader in customer experience in e-commerce area and contribute to broader discussions, strategy, and vision for online grocery shopping at Tesco.
  • Foster innovation, scientific discovery, and market analysis with a view of delivering a market leading and compelling customer journeys across different digital touchpoints.
  • Assessing the market and competitive landscape to influence the product strategy and roadmaps.
  • Work closely with other product managers, product teams and business partners, across multiple business units and domains (channels, markets, clients etc.) to solve customer and business problems, defining and agreeing outcomes and key results.
  • Work closely with the relevant engineering teams to deliver maximum business value with least effort, always delivering value in slices.
  • Represent the product organisation in key strategic decisions concerning relevant technology platform and suppliers.
  • Use leadership and negotiation skills to define and influence outcomes both within and outside of the organisation to achieve the best for Tesco customers, colleagues, suppliers and partners.
  • Determine and define the right mix of KPIs to judge the efficacy and drive material improvements in optimisation capability, whilst collaborating on the right business KPIs that drive value to Tesco’s P&L
  • Make build vs buy decisions in collaboration with senior technology counterparts based on what is best for the product strategy.
  • Drive the acceptance and adoption of ideas and improvements with product teams and engineering stakeholders to grow the product management competency.  

You will need

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Experience in large scale e-commerce business and have led end-to-end user journeys across different digital products.
  • Recognized as a champion and a domain expert in creating engaging User-Experience across different digital channels and customer propositions, for e-commerce business.
  • You are acknowledged as an important thought leader in your domain and are able to influence and innovate through defined specialisms and proven successes.
  • Have proven expertise in seeking out and dealing with ambiguous, unstructured challenges, quick to find opportunities and shape strategies and resources around them as an individual contributor.
  • Took multiple ideas (at least one new product/ idea) from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined KPIs
  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen
  • Experience in appraising and analysing the findings of customer and market research and using the results to influence product outcomes and strategic goals.

  • A challenger’s mindset and being brave in taking informed risk, influencing new ideas and new methodologies.
  • Curiosity and awareness of the competitive landscape, market trends and technology innovations, with an ability to leverage those for defining and executing product strategies.
  • Strong decision making and prioritization skills, especially when multiple trade-offs are involved, and faster decision are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A methodical/ analytical approach and great problem-solving skills
  • Ability to evangelise a product domain to the wider business
  • Team player who could work collaboratively with other members of the team
  • Ownership, responsiveness, and commitment towards assigned work
  • Empathy and good listening skills to understand the needs/pain points of your customers/ stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, writing effective user stories/acceptance criterions
