About the role

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for defining and maintaining architecture roadmaps, including technology lifecycle management, for Infrastructure. Identify, architect and design new infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements while introducing automation and ensuring security by design for large, complex global organisations. Collaborate extensively with other teams across all of Tesco Technology to ensure infrastructure products are aligned to the broader technology landscape. Manage and develop Infrastructure as a Product.

You will be responsible for

The role is for a senior system programmer to work for Tesco alongside the Mainframe Engineering manager, providing technical support to the Tech Infra and Tesco application team and support to the mainframe managed service company. The role will also provide technical oversight of the mainframe managed service company to Tech Infra management.

The role does not require scheduled on-call support; however, the successful candidate is expected to be able to provide out-of-hours support for critical major incidents and critical system upgrades on the mainframe.

You will need

  • Senior mainframe system programmer with 10+ years of hands-on experience
  • Able to drive own workload
  • Able to clearly communicate complex mainframe technical issues to a non-mainframe and potentially non-technical audience.
  • Experience of working with outsourced companies

Advanced z/OS System Programming skills

Knowledge of as much of the following as possible:

  • CICS
  • DB2 on the Mainframe
  • IMS
  • RACF
  • Mainframe Storage concepts
  • Mainframe network concepts
  • Mainframe performance and capacity concepts
  • Experience of third-party toolsets, particularly Broadcom, Macro4, BMC, Objectstar
