About the role

This is a key and exciting role that puts you at the heart of how we personalise our customer journeys and experiences at Tesco. The personalisation product team are responsible for managing the product vision, strategy and development for Tesco’s core capabilities and associated API’s. These services enable us to tailor the Tesco experience to a customer’s individual preferences across both online and instore touchpoints.

This role will provide leadership and line management across a team of personalisation product managers; empowering and coaching them to focus on building the right capabilities to achieve best customer and business outcomes.

The Lead Product Manager will play a key role in defining the strategy, metrics, and roadmap for this space along with supporting the teams with prioritisation and delivery of shared outcomes.

You will be responsible for

  • A master practitioner of Product Management, you will coordinate, own, and prioritise development of existing and new personalisation capabilities
  • You will be experienced working in a quantitative product area helping define the right metrics and guiding a/b tests alongside our optimisation teams
  • Managing a team of product managers, ensuring they are empowered and set up to succeed coaching the team in best practices of agile product development
  • Strong technical skills with experience of working with APIs and machine learning approaches
  • Leading the development plans: shaping the overall strategy, defining, and prioritising requirements and working with the different business units to ensure their plans are integrated.
  • Work with other Product Managers, architects, and the development team to deliver the roadmap using agile methodologies: prioritising requirements, answering development questions, and resolving issues, always putting the customer first.
  • Proactively seeking improvements to our ways of working across the various teams involved in the development and ongoing management of our API platform portfolio.
  • Monitoring and understanding the potential of new technologies and business models, identifying, and developing new opportunities for Tesco.

You will need

Experience relevant for this job

  • Have proven success in leading a team of highly talented and driven product managers with examples of taking multiple ideas from conception to go-live through standard software product development lifecycle and measurable success across defined OKR’s
  • Proven domain expertise in the relevant functional area and/or a large complex domain
  • Experience of owning a problem space to then work with Data Science teams to define machine learning models from training to deployment
  • Efficient in stakeholder management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating priorities
  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice and methodologies and strong technical acumen
  • Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested
  • Understands the impact Tech debt is causing and the value Tech upgrades can bring in, and can hold the objective conversations with your technology counterparts to prioritize it
