About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Group Financial Control team and be the finance expert for Tesco subsidiary statutory reporting and corporate simplification.

Reporting into the Head of Finance, you will coordinate the Tesco Group process for subsidiary statutory reporting including being the primary contact for the external auditors. You will also be responsible for producing the Tesco PLC standalone entity financial statements as well as corporate simplification projects. The role sits within a team covering a wide range of technical accounting areas.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a technical mind-set and problem-solving attitude, a confident communicator able to explain complex concepts clearly and to work methodically. This is an excellent opportunity to build strong working relationships across multiple teams and refine technical and project management skills.

In the Group Control team, you’ll be part of a group of experienced professionals, who are available for support and discussion. You’ll also be given independence and autonomy to go about your role in a flexible way.

You will be responsible for

  • Lead for the group’s subsidiary statutory reporting, responsible for overseeing the end to end process including coordinating with the external auditors and keeping key internal stakeholders updated, escalating any issues on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the Tesco PLC standalone financial statements which form part of the Group Annual Report.
  • Ownership of key modelling and analysis for Tesco PLC and key Tesco subsidiaries including review of distributable reserves, investment impairment analysis and dividend flows.
  • Understanding of IFRS, FRS101 and FRS 102 accounting frameworks; working closely with the Group’s technical accounting and external reporting teams to apply any new accounting standards that may become applicable.
  • Lead projects relating to the application of new accounting standards relevant to subsidiary statutory reporting.
  • Prepare papers with regards the above areas for both internal and external stakeholders.

You will need

  • ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills with proven track record of demonstrating credibility with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to review, summarise and critique complex data and undertake own research to facilitate understanding.
