About the role

The Tesco Consumer PR team sits within the Content, Social and Consumer PR team and the wider Tesco Marketing Communications department. We are responsible for​ influencing the media, so that they represent Tesco positively and communicate our key messages in the right way and in the right places to ensure this endorsement is compelling for our target audience group/s.​ Our remit covers PR related to Tesco products and campaigns, with a consumer audience, but we work closely with our Group Comms team who principally manage PR related to corporate reputation (sustainability, CSR, suppliers, market performance) and trade. 

As part of our work, we run a hard-working press office covering Food, BWS and Home products, we develop PR activations to support brand and trade campaigns and we also oversee PR-specific events.  

We are a small but ambitious team who are passionate about PR and we’re looking for someone who shares our ambition to join us, supporting with the planning, execution and reviewing of the consumer PR strategy.

The Hiring Manager for this vacancy is Fiona Snowdon / Recruiter: Ellie Goldby

You will be responsible for

  • Supporting with the development and execution of the PR strategy, including managing some events, activations and a bustling press office
  • Leading on some PR briefs that form part of wider, large scale marketing campaigns
  • Helping with the management of the Consumer PR budget, including raising POs
  • Acting as a key point of contact for all PR-related queries
  • Writing press material when necessary
  • Leading the sample management for PR campaigns and award entries
  • Acting as a key day-to-day contact for the agency
  • Working closely with internal teams across Brand, Product, Category and Campaigns to access necessary information to deliver the PR strategy
  • Being a key part of our PR media monitoring stream of work, sharing our results and creating actionable insights for the business
  • Working closely with colleagues in the wider Content, Social Media and Influencer team to identify opportunities for alignment e.g. bringing appropriate PR activations to life via our social media channels and managing PR influencer-led content.

You will need

This role could be a great fit for a PR executive in a consumer-facing role looking for an exciting new challenge, or an account manager in a consumer PR agency looking for their first in-house role. Specifically, you’ll need:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: you’ll need to be able to explain complex concepts to people of all levels
  • ​To feel comfortable working with agencies and helping with budget management
  • To be able to build great working relationships
  • To be confident with numbers
  • To be comfortable working in a vast business and a large team, as well the other marketing communications channels and campaign teams to deliver a compelling and integrated plan
  • To be comfortable leading an initiative from an early stage and communicating the plans to the business, while displaying the attention to detail, prioritisation and problem-solving skills needed to spot and deal with challenges as they crop up
  • A proactive attitude and creativity on how to generate press coverage
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
