About the role

We are looking for UI designer to join the shopping team to help shape the future of in-store and online shopping for millions of customers. 

You’ll be joining a collaborative multidisciplinary team of designers and researchers to identify and design solutions to improve the customer and colleague experience. 

Your remit will extend beyond just the interface; you’ll be involved in the whole experience, from new hardware selection through to the influence roll out plans. 

You will contribute to the best practices and quality standards to establish a single, consistent experience of our digital products and services. Your work will have a positive and tangible impact on millions of customers.  

You’ll work with other members of the multidisciplinary delivery team to bring expertise in interaction and UI design practice and techniques.

You will be responsible for

  • Develop and deliver user interfaces across a range of touchpoints 

  • Create prototypes for the breadth of hardware to support in store and online research and testing. 

  • Collaborate with all design & delivery disciplines to create & improve user experience and outcomes that are in-line with our design principles 

  • Creative problem solving, such as simplifying research & design issues for sophisticated products & services. 

  • Work closely with engineering teams ensure review of design implementation at key stages of the development cycle 

  • Dedicated focus on human centered design to always meet our user needs that serve our users a little better every day 

  • Interaction design research, identifying trends and critically analysing the viability 

  • Critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectiveness of solutions. Provide and encourage feedback from your team and other designers 

  • Liaise with technology and understand the scope of components in existing component libraries, determine fit for purpose and identify opportunities for improvement. 

  • Ensure new designs are consistent and leverage existing component libraries 

  • Be an advocate for correct use of and contribution to our design system 

  • Proactively share and communicate design expertise and knowledge with your peers and teams to improve organisational capability 

  • Demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and subject areas within the organisation. 

  • Effectively engaging and participating in research activities. Making key decisions based on research and understand how this research impacts others 

  • Review previous designs at project inception, conduct design audits, determine wireframe feasibility, and create hi-fidelity prototypes 

  • Adherence to W3C accessibility guidelines 

You will need

  • Passion for design and technology, with a keen interest in visual arts and digital culture. 

  • Good awareness of what success looks like with products and processes in the market. 

  • Self-motivated, organised and pay great attention to detail, with an aptitude to collaborate, share trends and best practices with team members. 

  • Actively seeks out ways to draw in first-hand customer representation to projects. 

  • Experience designing through the proactive use of insight, using analytics and design research to test and validate design variants. 

  • Work experience with other UI designers, UX designers, researchers, UX writers and developers to produce and maintain live products, shown in a strong and varied personal portfolio in digital format. 

  • Exceptional UI design skills (including interaction design) demonstrated with a strong portfolio  

  • High level of proficiency with the latest versions of Figma, Sketch, along with good knowledge of the latest multi-channel design and prototyping tools and technologies. 

  • Experienced working with design systems and brand guidelines. 

  • Proficiency at designing intuitive graphical interfaces for web, across multiple devices and screen sizes. Proficiency at designing native Android software is an advantage. 

  • Knowledgeable in producing design executions that comply with W3C accessibility guidelines. EKnowledge of typography and its use in interactive contexts. 

  • Experience of working on design projects using agile methodologies. 

  • Good knowledge of how digital interfaces are developed, knowing how to produce clean deliverables that help maintain good code. Coding knowledge is an advantage. 

  • Experience in producing interactive prototypes to test creative concepts and ideas, ranging from simple click-through prototypes to complex micro-interactions. 

  • Experience in participating in user testing and research sessions.
