About the role

We have a great opportunity to join a successful team, to manage and develop the strategy for Mechanical and Electrical Services alongside other general engineering categories. We are at a pivotal moment in developing our decarbonisation sourcing strategy working to identify new suppliers and technology that will be core to reaching our 2050 net zero target. Working within the Property category, you will partner with our senior colleagues and external partners to meet all Tesco Maintenance and engineering requirements. This role drives value for money and efficiencies throughout the procurement lifecycle, as well as partnering internally to ensure that Tesco has a robust decarbonisation strategy balancing the needs of the business, health and safety requirements, legal compliance, advancing technology and environmental challenges.

We are looking for a confident and articulate Procurement professional to join our team. Role modelling the ability to work with various colleagues and negotiate with suppliers are key experiences required for this role. The ideal candidate would have experience in high value complex procurement strategies and managing multi-million pound tenders.

You will be responsible for

  • Build and deliver sub category plans aligned to Category Plans by being innovative and collaborative with various cross functional teams
  • Delivering high savings targets through implementation of robust sourcing events, ensuring that suppliers meet all operational requirements whilst providing the best value for Tesco
  • Develop category plans linking to Tesco environmental targets and emerging industry technologies
  • Forging strong working relationships with colleagues to support, endorse and deliver plans aligned to category procurement strategies to realise business savings and support innovation
  • Consistently track and report on savings targets for specified sub-categories using the agreed process
  • Using good judgement, build new and develop existing supplier relationships to ensure continued suitability and create greater value across the organisation
  • Support the business to achieve compliance with legal, ethical and safety procurement policies with integrity and good judgment

You will need

  • Leadership skills – the ability to lead and coach a team of 3 procurement managers with a collective spend profile of over £200m
  • Experience in developing talent to grow our capability with creative and ambitious opportunities
  • Procurement management, contract management and negotiation skills, experience of managing large multi-million pound sourcing events
  • Ability to influence and challenge the norm. Able to bring new concepts and ideas to life, and bring senior colleagues on board
  • Capability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, driving innovation across the category
  • Past experience in an engineering procurement role is welcomed but not crucial. A flexible and enthusiastic approach to learning the category specifics is preferred
