About the role

As a Capability Partner, you will partner senior stakeholders (WL5s) to develop the strategic direction for Customer (what and how) by completing learning needs analysis to identify current and future capability needs across the group, feeding this into an overarching Group Tesco Capability strategy.

You'll work closely with the other Capability Partners to ensure a standardised and consistent approach is applied to all learner audiences. You'll work closely with the Capability Design Leads and TBS to shape, influence and own capability for your business area(s). You will be visible, responsive, challenging and effective at building relationships and influencing across the group. You'll be an L&D expert and take an 'outside-in' approach, always striving to maintain industry expertise and build a world class capability function.

You will be responsible for

  • Partners senior stakeholders (WL5) to develop and influence strategic direction for Customer learning for both the what and the how from a Group perspective. 
  • Champion the core learning offer for colleagues, managers and leaders, influencing the business to adopt the core offer and ensure a seamless learning experience for all colleagues within their function(s). 
  • Act as an SME for people and capability whilst actively balancing the needs of Tesco and our colleagues, ensuring colleagues are safe and skilled in their work whilst ensuring alignment to Tesco's overall business strategy. 
  • Collaborate with other capability partners on business wide technical learning offerings to ensure a consistent approach is taken across all learning products and platforms. 
  • Balance the needs of Customer with the needs of the Group capability team, ensuring you always champion the Group approach whilst influencing and liaising with the business to meet their needs. 
  • You are responsible for owning any safe and legal training specific to you function(s) and will be responsible for working with TBS to create content to keep the business compliant. 
  • You live 20/80, ensuring your function(s) follow all governance processes and ruthlessly prioritises work in line with the group capability's plans and priorities. You take a cost-conscious approach to all budgetary decisions, sharing accountably on budget decisions and ensuring we follow group capability budgeting priorities within the work we deliver in functions. 
  • You are the face of our operating model and hold the business to account, ensuring we remove duplication and drive learner consistency. You work collaboratively and supportively with TBS, breaking down silos and building capability to strive to build one global team. 
  • You contribute to establishing a world class Group within capability, continuously striving to bring outside- in thinking and are passionate about ensuring the learner experience is at the heart of what you do. 
  • Owning and leading the Group functional capability strategy inc. Learning Tech experience and governance for Customer. Build relationships and work closely with capability teams in other parts of the group to remove duplication and drive consistency. 
  • Navigate and influence a variety of stakeholders to gain buy in and sponsorship for the Customer capability plan. 
  • Gathering, validating (with data and evidence) and responding to skill gaps and capability needs by undertaking a learning needs analysis. 
  • Aligning the 'what' and the ‘how’ for Customer and audiences, taking the group portfolio of products and implementing them in the most efficient and effective way within Customer.

Experience relevant for this job:

• Setting group wide strategies and gaining engagement, buy-in and sign off for these 
• Capability building, design and delivery including curating learning resources for audiences across a Global scale
• Proven understanding of diversity and inclusion challenges and opportunities 
• Demonstrable knowledge of learning and development interventions and providers
• Senior stakeholder management, in particular building trusted relationships with a diverse group of international stakeholders
• Able to demonstrate knowledge of latest learning trends and how people learn
• Ability to think beyond the here and now - connecting learning to the wider business context.
• Experience / knowledge of the key areas of marketing; insight, positioning, innovation, concept and proposition development, briefing and judging, omni-channel communications
• Evidence of developing / collaborating on other marketing capability programs
• Understanding and appreciation of marketing skills of the future including the role of digital
