About the role

This role presents a fantastic opportunity for somebody looking to broaden and strengthen their buying experience at Tesco, whilst building their profile across the wider business through the delivery of key initiatives which are essential for the continued success of the category.

This is a key Buying Manager position within the team (established with line management responsibility), with the opportunity to lead strategic relationships across many large FMCG suppliers (eg. GSK, J&J, Reckitt Benckiser).  The Medicine & Pharmacy categories have a healthy blend of brand and own label product mix; negotiating market-leading ‘Buy, Move, Sell’ plans are key to unlocking the growth potential with our branded partners, whereas the need to initiate, develop and execute an own label global sourcing strategy is the key priority on own label, as we look to future proof our sourcing models for lines that matter most for customers.

Due to the pandemic, customers’ engagement in this category and the profile we have within the Tesco business has never been so strong.  In joining the Healthcare team, you’ll be part of a team that leads the growth and profit delivery role within Packaged, whilst also having a lead role in supporting the health and well-being of the nation.

This role sources, buys & sells great quality products, giving our customers the best offer, range and prices available.

  • Working with suppliers to build a strong Buy/Move plan that ensures our products are manufactured, moved & sold in the most efficient way possible
  • Effectively managing commodity and currency risk and negotiating a sustainable, market leading commercial position.
  • Forecasting and managing budgets effectively.  Delivering quantum profit targets.  Always being cost conscious.
  • Developing and leading a high performing team, giving them the opportunities to be their best.
  • Adhering to all Tesco policies, storage and hand-over protocols and successfully completing all the training so that you have zero GSCOP breaches.  Ensuring all agreements are recorded in writing, reporting GSCOP complaints to Legal within 48 hours of receipt, and leading a culture of compliance within the team.
