About the role

The Supply Chain Team is a global operation responsible for getting hundreds of millions of products from farms and factories to our millions of customers each and every day.

We've built our reputation on frequently reinventing our supply chain to respond to how our customers want to shop and the demands on Tesco's supply chain have never been greater. Our customers want more flexibility in the way that they shop and demand an ever growing range of products. You have the opportunity to be part of the team that responds to that challenge and again transforms Tesco's supply chain.

As an Analyst in the team there are lots of interesting problems to solve. You could be analysing which products need to be reduced in price to minimise waste each day, or how to automatically supply enough extra burgers and lettuces for barbecues over a hot and sunny weekend. You could be giving presentations on the newest innovation in big data analytics or engaging with suppliers to drive benefits throughout the supply chain.

Based within a team of change managers, analysts and data scientists, you’ll be working on projects that make significant, lasting changes to the UK’s biggest retailer. The team's initiatives and ideas are based in data-driven insight, collaboration with Tesco colleagues and our partnership with suppliers. By measuring changes in the office, visiting stores or working with suppliers you will see the business improvement and the big benefits to everyday life for customers, colleagues and producers.

The nature of this role means that it is suitable to be filled by either an Analyst or a Senior Analyst. For consideration as a Senior Analyst you must have a minimum of two years’ experience in an Analytical role and meet the requirements outlined below.

The Hiring Manager for this vacancy is Richard John

You will be responsible for

As an Analyst for Supply Chain you will lead development projects that improve the Supply Chain for Tesco, suppliers and customers. These projects will improve availability, reduce costs and optimise stock holding.

  • Developing a deep understanding of how the retail industry, our end to end supply chain and store operations work and why.
  • Using a combination of data and business understanding to turn data into insight, root causing issues, defining problems, designing creative solutions and implementing them in the business.
  • Reporting data accurately and turning it into useful information which has context and supporting narrative.
  • Articulating the opportunity, insight, or project clearly, flexing your style to engage with empathy and conviction.
  • Owning a project; build engagement, influence relevant stakeholders and deliver change in line with milestones.
  • Measuring the costs & benefits associated with your work and recommending suspension/postponement of delivery if an opportunity fails to materialise or previously unknown costs become apparent.
  • Maintaining & developing our suite of insight reports to give our operators and leadership visibility of how the business is performing and what we need to do to improve.
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.

You will need

We have a variety of analyst roles across our supply chain that range from very technical modelling roles, to jobs with a focus on engagement and collaboration. To be the very best candidate you will need to be a keen problem-solver who can demonstrate:

  • Strong business acumen and the drive to make changes to the way the company operates
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • The ability to simplify complex issues and implement practical solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage and collaborate with other teams to deliver to objectives
  • The ability to innovate new and pragmatic solutions using your own ideas

As a Senior Analyst you will also need to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Own a project, identifying the right tasks and working with others to tackle them
  • Proactively communicate progress and concerns to key stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the project to the agreed timelines
  • Be a role model of what a great analyst looks like, supporting your peers in their development

Programming skills are a bonus (primarily SQL, but also python) however not required for the Analyst role – a large proportion of our analysts join with limited SQL knowledge, the aptitude to learn technical skills quickly is enough - everything can be taught on the job through a variety of Tesco-led training courses. Any work experience in retail or systems /analytics will be beneficial to your application.

Roles are available full time or part time.
