About the role

We are recruiting for Food Technologists across our Fresh and Packaged foods team, to be based here in our Head Office in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.

Working as a Technologist you will be responsible for the product safety, quality & legality in your own product area as well as managing a wide breadth of product suppliers, located across the country and sourcing from around the globe.

As well as your own product area you will support your Technical Manager to deliver the category plans and KPIs

For this role, we are looking for a Technologist with a strong food manufacturing background. 

We will be holding an Assessment Centre on site in February where we will be assessing your knowledge, competency, and some practical exercises. This will also give you an opportunity to see our offices and working environment.

You will be responsible for

  • Ensuring products in area are safe, legal, responsibly sourced and meet the product brief, Tesco rules & policies
  • Being the expert in your field, achieving KPIs and supporting development of policy/protocol in your category
  • Minimising cost and risk throughout the supply chain and product range, ensuring appropriate controls are in place for consistency, legality and quality of products & packaging and signing off products at appropriate milestones
  • Ensuring required Due Diligence documents are in place. Ensuring labelling is legal and factually correct
  • Monitoring all quality and customer feedback and implementing actions to resolve issues raised
  • Management & reduction of customer complaints, incidents (EPWs,recalls) and enforcement challenges in my area
  • Inputting product, process and improvement ideas into the New Product Development plan
  • The technical critical path for new products/product changes, working with suppliers and flagging risks 
  • Developing the strategy with Category teams, identifying and developing the best suppliers & sources
  • Ensuring suppliers have Technical and ethical audits as required, agreeing action plans to drive improvement
  • Managing and developing long term partnerships with suppliers, improving processes, quality and value
  • Supporting Suppliers to deliver against our sustainability and health goals
  • Working with supplier to understand and address any human rights risks within their supply chains
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence

You will need

  • Relevant experience/qualification(s) in food safety /manufacturing.
  • Relevant product area knowledge/experience of delivering safe, legal, responsibly sourced, quality products to the customer
  • Knowledge of legislation and technical standards
  • Understanding of risk and risk assessment
  • Understanding of end to end Incident Management process
  • Customer focused
  • Strong Initiative with proactive ways of working
  • Personable and able build strong relationship and collaborate with all stakeholders and suppliers
  • Analytical; able to interpret data and make decisions; even if all facts are not available
  • Able to multitask and prioritise effectively
  • Agile and open minded in approach
  • Work well under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office packages
  • Previous relevant experience and a proven, successful track record of delivering safe, legal and ethical products to the customer is essential
