About the role

Our Fresh Food team are seeking a Buying Manager of Ambient Vegetables.
What's an ambient vegetable? Key products to our customer such as Onions, Carrots, Parsnips & other root vegetables as well as Courgettes, Aubergines & Butternut Squash.

Given the importance of the area availability, quality and price are key, as are seasonal events such as Halloween (Pumpkins) & Festive 5 (Parsnips & Carrots). The supply base is varied with family businesses & imported product, so you will get a breadth of experience in managing OL products from field to shelf.

The hiring manager for this vacancy is Ben Rowbotham.

You will be responsible for

Passionate about produce by taking ownership of the category to deliver:

  • Market out performance in volume
  • Aldi Price Match across key lines
  • A credible range that supports volume delivery while manages the mix
  • Key seasonal events (Halloween, Festive 5) by delivering the best magnetic value in the market
  • Forecasting & managing profitability across the year


Build strong supplier relationships to deliver:

  • Great quality, prices and service level on a consistent basis
  • Improvements to quality & costs through improvements to our operating model


Be brave to deliver strategic opportunities by truly understanding our customers & suppliers

  • Increase % sold through loose to support sustainability commitments
  • Further opportunities to improve quality at shelf edge as plastic to removed
  • Review supply base in key areas, with a potential reset required to improve overall efficiency

You will need

Operational skills relevant for this job:

  • Negotiation experience, specifically collaborative negotiation on OL products
  • Stakeholder management
  • Supplier management
  • Range management
  • Trade planning (including seasonal events or large promotions)
  • Data Analysis of Customer insight & commercial data

 

Experience relevant for this job:

  • Ideally experience in Food related roles but not a necessity
  • Buying
  • Range & trade planning
  • Report preparation and analysis
  • Commercial forecasting
