About the role

Everyone is entitled to have their human rights and freedoms respected, whoever they are and wherever they live and work.  But it’s something we don’t take for granted. 
Our responsibility to respect human rights goes beyond our colleagues and our customers. It also includes the communities we operate in and the people who work throughout our supply chains, where the risks to those rights and freedoms are greatest and can be systemic. Addressing these risks means getting to the root causes and collaborating with colleagues, suppliers, other retailers, trade unions, NGOs, governments and other industry experts.
That’s why our human rights strategy - rated top of Oxfam’s Supermarket Scorecard for the 4^th year running - needs human rights experts that can lead not just our business but our industry too.

The hiring managers for this vacancy are Eric Anderson and Sophia Cochrane.

You will be responsible for

• Leading the delivery of our human rights strategy in key areas to tackle human rights risks in our business operations and supply chains.  Key areas may focus around priority product categories (such as tea or seafood), high-risk geographies (such as South East Asia), or high-risk indicators (such as living wage gaps).
• Ensuring robust due diligence on human rights risks and remediation of adverse impacts, aligned with the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights.
• Collaborating with key stakeholders to better identify and understand human rights risks and to develop solutions to mitigate and manage those risks.
• Engaging colleagues and suppliers to meet our human rights policy requirements (aligned to the Ethical Trading Initiative's base code).
• Responding to enquiries from media, Non-Governmental Organisations, investors and other key stakeholders as a subject matter expert on human rights issues
• Representing Tesco at external events and through multi-stakeholder initiatives to drive our human rights strategy and help gain recognition for Tesco as a trusted business leader in respecting human rights.

You will need

Experience relevant for this job:

• Experience of human rights / labour standards / International Development programmes in a commercial context
• Managing complex business change projects with strong influencing/collaboration skills
• Multi-stakeholder working with external stakeholders (NGOs, trade unions, media)
• Line management
