About the role

This is an amazing opportunity for a Product leader to drive growth and value by helping our customers find inspiration, choose what to buy and build deeper relationships with Tesco.   

Your will lead the digital Product vision to serve our Customers, Communities and Planet.  You will shape the online and instore shopping journeys, starting from the web homepage and app home screen, all the way through to the basket or shopping list.  

Your customer facing domain will provide considerable breadth of impact, with direct involvement in Tesco digital entry points, Search & Browse, Shopping Propositions, Ads, Recommendations & Favourites, and Strategic Projects. Your diverse Product team will evolve with the product area and rely on your strong leadership through both discovery and delivery at a high pace.

You will set objectives that ladder up to company level goals and empower your team to achieve them. Strong collaborative leadership and confidence to take principled and data driven decisions where needed. Your experience should span web and app and prove your ability to think beyond individual features to optimise the broader customer experience and business positioning.

You will be working closely with our different business units and must balance their needs across business performance, marketing, operational trading, and content teams. You will need to wisely combine your vision with qualitative and quantitative research to lead the market in the long term while iteratively delivering value to our customers.

You will be responsible for

  • Accountable for the strategic positioning of my product/s and guiding my Product team to success, delivering high value products and features to customers through obsessive attention to data and detail. 
  • I will build strong relationships with the senior members of all business units and be comfortable presenting my product area to all levels of the business up to the Executive level.  
  • Building domain knowledge, with attention to detail and a clear understanding of all my key metrics and product performance.  I will be accountable for the continuous improvement and evolution of the Product at Tesco. 
  • Responsibility for product platforms/interfaces, partnering with leaders in several areas in Tesco, including, marketing, engineering, data, operations, regional business leaders and change directors.
  • Business partnership and collaboration: driving strong business partner relationships, and partnering closely with engineering to deliver products that are Group enabled, channel agnostic, where appropriate and enhance the customer experience, delivering value for Tesco.
  • Increasing efficiencies and bringing a big picture, future facing approach to the product roadmap and assessing how each reactive solution could be leveraged and reused to create pervasive and sustainable enhancements to Tesco’s products.
  • Develop and maintain understanding of business strategy and challenges to drive effective solutions.
  • Set the vision, goals, objectives, priorities and key strategies my product area as well as driving continuous improvement. 
  • Technological innovation: Synthesise and anticipate consumer, colleague and supplier needs, making sure Tesco is well-placed to build the rights products in this space
  • Responsibility for planning, budgeting and review processes.
  • Performance management: Establishing, managing, tracking and communicating status of key measures and utilises appropriate dashboards to measure success against Tesco’s business and infrastructure goals.
  • Build and nurture a great team of Product Managers for my product, based on the business needs, strategic priorities assigned, and level of focus required

You will need

  • I appraise and analyse the results of customer research and use the results to influence Product outcomes and strategic goals
  • I have wide experience in running experimentation programs at scale, and can proactively support Optimisation teams to run many experiments at once
  • I know how large technology systems should interact with each other and track health metrics (uptime, SLOs, response time, etc)
  • I lead vision and strategy discussions across business and technology, making sure that Product teams are self-motivated, empowered, customer-centric and outcome-led.
  • I advise on a wide range of market research techiques to understand the factors that influence and impact customer behaviour.
  • I understand large scale data platforms and how they can increase the scalability, availability, performance, and security of my organisation’s data.
  • I understand the Product development lifecycle, product delivery process and the importance of an Agile mindset to discover, design, define, develop and deliver small increments of the most important opportunities that will drive growth and value for my products.
  • I advise and influence product teams and stakeholders to make sure that product, business and Technology OKRs are delivered.
  • I am responsible for developing, advocating and clearly communicating the Product roadmap at a strategic/portfolio level to all senior stakeholders and the wider Tesco organisation.
  • I understand my business, including the key commercial drivers, business metrics and performance indicators, and can play a part in the decision-making process.
  • I am able to continually deliver value through my product team.
