About the role

We are delighted to share that we are seeking a Design Assistant to join the Kidswear Clothing team here at Tesco. 

We're looking for someone who is driven and passionate about all things design. The role will need you to be proactive and forthcoming with spotting the latest trends and be able to communicate them with confidence and clarity to the commercial design and buying teams along with any key leadership stakeholders.

You'll demonstrate the ability to create your own original trend research and mood boards that are brand appropriate with our customer at the heart of everything we do.

A large part of this role will involve supporting a design manager and the wider design function with presentation and meeting preparation, product development, colour and trend forecasting, and technical spec creation.

You will be responsible for

  • Proactive communications with the buying and design teams, creating awareness of emerging trends and colours.
  • Providing design, product development and sampling support to keep the team running efficiently.
  • Supporting your line manager in preparation for all key product development meetings and presentations.
  • We conduct customer and competitor research to influence designs, build reports to share with the design team in meetings. You'll also contribute to the department's design direction, being proactive in identifying core lines, key statements and colours to drive sales.
  • Understanding best and worst lines to influence seasonal strategy and product opportunities.
  • Designing balanced ranges, understanding range principles.
  • Supporting the delivery of 'must haves' and seasonal/trend products for our customer and resolving day to day operational issues/queries, escalating where appropriate.
  • Assisting your manager by designing the accurate number of options to meet the needs of the department. You'll also compile brief packs to achieve 'right first time' quality buying sample.
  • Playing your role in delivering the to the key dates in the critical path

You will need

As a Design Assistant you'll need experience of Creative design, Photoshop/ Illustrator and hand illustration experience.

We also need this person to have relevant CAD design programmes experience as well as surface pattern/ illustration design.

You'll have an appreciation of the range planning process and product development as well as experience with MS office tools.
