About the role

The insight team’s purpose is to encourage insight-led proposition decisions by understanding Customers, Colleagues and the markets we operate in better than anyone. Our key priorities are expertly combining multiple sources of data to identify and prioritise customer growth opportunities, frame propositions and measure their success.

Robust and agile analytics, research, commercialisation, business partnering, storytelling, curation and democratising insight are our key jobs.

In this role you will use expertise in Data Analytics to build deep insights about Customers that aligns to the needs of the Tesco strategy.

You will be responsible for

  • Leading the analytics vision and delivery for your Insight domain. You will lead how data and analytics is employed effectively to deliver our insight purpose. You may manage other analysts in the UK, in Bengaluru or through wider agency partnerships
  • Developing 'Insight Way' for analytics and innovating to improve the team's efficiency and consistency, taking the time to share with and learn from other analytics leads. The definition of analytics processes, robust metrics, customer segments, scores and dimensions form part of that best practice
  • Exploring customer needs, understanding performance, forecasting future behaviour and finding opportunities for Tesco at pace
  • Explaining complex analytics and science approaches clearly so that they are easily understood by non-analysts and critiquing other approaches before confidently recommending a way forward
  • Working closely with Insight Partners on how to best communicate insight to senior colleagues through inspiring visualisations, storytelling and embedding expertise.
  • Anticipating future data, analytics and solution requirements and liaising across the Insight team to ensure these become part of future development roadmap. Pro-actively alerting the team to developments in the external analytics field.

You will need

  • Broad experience in solving problems through analytics - preferably with customer data.
  • Strong analytics, statistical modelling background applied across a number of areas using both simple and complex statistical models - segmentations, forecasting, driver models
  • Skilled in using statistical / data analytics tools (Python or R preferred) as well as data visualisation tools (preferably Tableau). SQL is required
