About the role

The Tesco Fulfilment operation is a recognised world leader across the retail industry in making sure our customers can always get the products they want whether in store or online. With the largest online Grocery operation in the UK and spanning six countries globally. This is an amazing opportunity to deliver valuable impact at scale, by reducing our operating costs or to enable our ambitious growth plans through new propositions. Through picking over 2bn items per year, small efficiencies can have a big impact to our colleagues and customers.

Our challenge is to create a strategic, scalable and user intuitive fulfilment platform to maximize and optimise resources and increase the end-to-end fulfilment efficiency. Delivering innovative step change and deploying new technologies.

We have an experienced and growing Product, Engineering and Programme team who are responsible for building the technology solutions needed to support and deliver the Customer Fulfilment Platform. The missing ingredient is you, a Technical Programme Manager who is able to work with multiple Product, Engineering teams and vendors to deliver increased value from our Fulfilment Platforms now and for the future. If you think you are the person for the job, see below

You will be responsible for

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Focused on Customer centric KPI’s and working with our Business, Product and Engineering teams to prioritise and deliver valuable change against our strategic drivers, “Save to Invest” and “Easily the Most Convenient”  
  • Deliver programmes with potential business and technical risks that will impact the success of key Tesco business priorities
  • Shape programmes with ambiguous scope and uncertain delivery approach
  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan, focussing on unlocking business value
  • Collaborate and manage dependencies across platform and technology teams and manage communication to deliver transparency and visibility of key outcomes
  • Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion and manage escalations
  • Managing and delivering change in the applications, products and API’s:
    • End to End ownership of changes required to support new propositions or operating models
    • Managing the operational impact of the changes
    • Planning and executing post implementation checks to confirm health of systems
  • Managing and forecasting the budget for any given stream of work
  • Managing the trade-offs between competing priorities for resources and understanding of the business value and its contribution to the growth plan
  • Understand technology concepts, grasp new ones quickly and appreciate their implications on delivery
  • Proactively identify problems, working closely with Product and engineering teams to quantify their impact and prioritise fixes
  • Build positive relationships with business stakeholders
  • Contribute actively to TPM community

You will need

Key Skills and Experience

You will need to have demonstrated experience of…:

  • A proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology and/or infrastructure
  • Working across the group countries and multiple time-zones
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience
  • Strong understanding and managing within an agile framework through the entire Software development Lifecycle
  • The ability to influence without authority
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills
  • Demonstrate resilience during incidents or change and continue delivery
  • Understanding of agile techniques to deliver world class products

Personal:

  • Adaptable and Flexible to deliver varying changes/challenges in a 24x7 environment
  • Ability to plan and organise, responsiveness, self-starter 
  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership
  • The successful candidate will have a tenacious can-do, will-do mentality. Whilst being personally robust and willing to challenge the status quo, you will work closely with other team members and must be able to bring people with you
