About the role

This is a key and exciting role that puts you at the heart of our customer’s experience. The profile and segmentation product team are responsible for managing the product vision, strategy and development of one of Tesco’s core technology foundations – an API Platform that makes it easy for customers, colleagues, and partners to have a personalised experience when they get along with Tesco via whatever channel they use.

 

Our product team are also the source of our customers’ personal, contact, and preference information.

 

Across our combined core capabilities, we enable the Tesco business to better understand, optimise and enhance our customer’s personalised brand interactions, such as tailored shopping experiences or relevant communications.

Our platform capabilities enable millions of positive customer engagements per day, across our online journeys and with every in-store purchase on our tills. You will be responsible for

  • You are extraordinary practitioner of Product Management, you will coordinate, own, and prioritise development of our platform capabilities balanced with tactical short-term priorities, on both new build and legacy technology stack/s.
  • Line Management of a team of product managers (3-4) and utilising your mature servant leadership approaches to ensure they are set up to achieve success towards our outcomes and metrics.
  • Using your depth and breadth of knowledge in product management, agile delivery, and people leadership, you’ll grow the product practice and community through forums, showcases, and share’n’learn sessions.
  • Strong understanding of technology, systems, and APIs, as working predominately on developing platform capabilities.
  • Champion platform thinking to deliver common capabilities and services that can be used by many consumers, and using standards for integration across the Tesco tech estate.
  • Drive future platform capabilities incorporating future state and legacy services.
  • Owning the development plans: shaping the domain strategy, defining, and prioritising business requirements and working with the different business units to ensure shared outcomes are achieved.
  • Work with other Product Managers, architects, and the development teams to deliver your roadmap using agile methodologies: defining value, prioritising requirements, answering development questions, and resolving issues, always putting the customer first.
  • Proactively seeking improvements to our product and agile ways of working across the various teams involved in the development and ongoing management of our retail platform portfolio.
  • Supervising and understanding emerging market trends, business models, and the potential use of new technologies. Able to incorporate those into your strategy and complete new opportunities for Tesco.
  • This role will best suit an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, is well organised, pragmatic and a creative problem solver with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to make change for the better and, most meaningfully, puts our customers first.

You will need

Experience relevant for this job

 

  • Have proven success in managing a team of very hardworking and driven product managers
  • Have prioritised multiple ideas and delivered (at least 1 new product/idea) from conception to launch, through standard product development lifecycle, achieving measurable success across defined KPIs.
  • Ideally domain expertise in the relevant functional area, however ability to drive outcomes in large sophisticated organisation will be highly relevant.
  • Efficient in partner management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting the best team members on the most value generating Products/ Business priorities
  • Knowledge and experience of modern product management best practices and methodologies and strong technical competence
  • Technically competent to influence and understand available solutions, context and approach, and aid engineering in estimating the feasibility and complexity of solutions.
  • Understands the impact of Tech Debt and the value that tech improvements can unlock for your products
  • Can hold objective and difficult conversations with technology counterparts to prioritize high-value and high-impact outcomes
  • Desirable: Knowledge and experience of the paradigms and trade-offs surrounding software architectures and software technical design choices.
