About the role

The Space, Range and Merchandising team serve customers by:

  • Deciding the mix of space between categories in our stores based on customer demographics, locations and shopping mission
  • Building the best displays which are easy to shop for customers, but also operationally efficient for colleagues

The Product team own the front end and back end systems that make these possible, and improve them, to drive a better shopping trip in store. The team also owns APIs to give the enterprise access to the range and location data that drives everything from the dot.com website and pick to price integrity routines.

The Hiring Manager for this role is Neil Jarrad.

You will be responsible for

Reporting to the Lead Product Manager, you will be responsible for developing the merchandising systems and landing the change with the display colleagues who use them and developing the Product Location API to support the enterprise systems that use it.

  • Identify new opportunities to improve merchandising, using data to establish value.
  • Work with users and UX to design high quality solutions
  • Write user stories and acceptance tests for Engineering and help the team in breaking down a complex piece of work into smaller chunks of value that can be delivered faster
  • Prioritise the merchandising backlog, including UK and International work
  • Steer sprint / release planning sessions by working with my engineering counterparts to plan sprints / releases that deliver maximum business value in least effort
  • Prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues independently.

Upcoming projects include:

  1. Improving Store Specific Merchandising to give each product the space that is appropriate for that stores sales, reducing replenishment work in store
  2. Bring promotional space planning into our merchandising systems, making work simpler for display managers and store merchandisers
  3. Integrate all the sources of product location data to give the best locations to improve the dot.com pick.

You will need

  • Ability to work collaboratively within the team and across the business.
  • Interest in retail operations and its complexities

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of product management best practice & methodologies.
  • Retail processes and system knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience of software development methodologies and processes.
  • Enterprise API development and use
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications / experience.

This is an ideal role for someone experienced in Product Management looking to enter retail, or someone experienced in retail systems and processes looking to move into Product Management.
