About the role

As Portfolio Manager, you will be part of a small Portfolio Management team within the wider Centre of Excellence and will be expected to work on a broad range of projects that will touch all areas of the organisation.  This exciting position will be responsible for a number of projects and programmes within Finance Change, where you will work with appropriate stakeholders (including the Project Manager) to ensure the projects follow the correct governance and are implemented on time and on budget.  

You will be responsible for

  • Ensuring projects follow the correct governance process, remain on budget, and report accurately when required
  • Forecasting and managing budgets effectively and always being cost conscious
  • Tracking benefits, reporting on milestones, managing change logs, using and logging lessons learned, managing cross programme interdependencies, risks and escalating issues to get clear direction and decision from stakeholders 
  • Identifying and managing project risks and issues, escalating where appropriate
  • Supporting and implementing the mobilisation of the Centre Of Excellence, if required
  • Continually keeping abreast of the project status, its finances and approvals, using the agreed methodology
  • Setting up the Project/programme for success and supporting Project Managers with a robust Business Case
  • Tracking project benefits after go-live against the original business case and critical success factors
  • Working alongside Change Management and Technology to ensure successful planning and delivery

You will need

  • Experience of large corporate financial budgeting and planning processes 
  • A track record of working with multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience of working within projects heavily aligned with Technology
  • The ability and knowledge to drive a business strategy forward
  • Experience of raising risks and issues and confidently sharing a solution
  • P3O or Programme/Project management qualification (MSP or equivalent)
  • A solid understanding of PMO process, standards and governance
