About the role

We are seeking a Global Mobility Business Partner to join the team partnering the UK business on international and domestic mobility and with accountability for Global Immigration. This role holds responsibility for managing a team of three UK Mobility Specialists and reports into our Global Mobility Lead as part of our Global Mobility Centre of Expertise.

In this role you (and your team) will be responsible for providing end-to-end support on UK touching international and domestic mobility cases. You will also be responsible for Global Immigration, managing immigration projects, working with external counsel and working on process improvement initiatives that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. The successful candidate will work collaboratively, influence internal and external stakeholders and lead the immigration programme to deliver value.

The Tesco Global Mobility Team are responsible for delivering business driven and cost-effective assignment, relocation and compliance services, in line with our reward principles, to ensure our mobile colleagues can get on and achieve our core purpose: serving Tesco’s shoppers a little better everyday.

You will be responsible for

As Global Immigration Lead:

  • Manage Global Immigration in conjunction with external consultants across the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia.
  • Managing external partner relationships, service levels and performance to ensure a great experience for our colleagues- including external immigration consultants, UKV&I premium sponsorship service & UK DSP provider.
  • Review immigration processes and be accountable for identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Accountability for leading immigration audits.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on immigration processes and changes, keeping them appraised of regulatory changes and deliver compliance-driven and business focused solutions.
  • Recommend and influence immigration-related communications and internal intranet content.
  • Delivering training sessions to relevant parts of the business on immigration changes.
  • Accountability for Immigration, STBV and Posted Worker Directive related projects.
  • Oversight of the annual immigration budget.

    As UK Mobility Business Partner Lead:

  • Advising the business on policy and best practice for international assignments, international transfers/hires and UK domestic moves.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders such as home/host people teams, line managers, mobility colleagues, payroll teams, tax teams and finance teams to deliver a great assignment experience.
  • Managing senior, escalated or complex immigration and relocation cases.
  • Accountability for the immigration compliance of the sponsorship licence for Head Office, Stores and Tesco Bank.
  • Managing UK Home Office requirements for maintaining sponsorship license; i.e. regular checks with individuals and people teams on an individual’s right to work, and potential changes to their right to work, regular audits and monthly Authorising Office reporting.
  • Managing senior, escalated or complex immigration and relocation cases.
  • Lead tenders for UK suppliers and supporting in tenders for global suppliers.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships - including People Directors, People Business Partners, Resourcing team, Legal, Regional Pharmacy Managers and Policy team.
  • Ownership and management of UK domestic policies;
  • Line management of three UK Mobility Specialists.

You will need

Essential:

  • Solid immigration experience, particularly detailed working knowledge of immigration rules and processes in the UK;
  • Experience advising business and HR leaders on complex immigration regulations, risk and legal compliance (either in-house or in a management consultancy / legal setting).
  • Experience resolving complex immigration issues independently and taking ownership in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances.
  • Experience managing third party vendors including on-boarding, performance monitoring and improvement planning.
  • Experience developing and implementing continuous improvement strategies.
  • Proactive, flexible and able to manage a number of conflicting priorities.

Preferable:

  • Demonstrable global immigration experience, including one of our other key locations of Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Hong Kong, China & India.
  • Deep understanding of immigration landscapes and trends.
  • Experience managing global and country-specific immigration audits.
  • Understanding of expat compensation packages e.g. how cost of living allowances are calculated, per diems etc.
  • Experience of Posted Workers Directive compliance and processes.
  • Ability to adapt to change and collaborate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience of building credible relationships, influencing management and leadership teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid sense of accountability, sound personal judgment and ability to adapt to change.
