About the role
As we continue to see business growth in traditional store business and drive the boom in online grocery deliveries, we are recruiting for an experienced materials handling Automation Engineer to support in the modification and development of our existing and new distribution and fulfilment centres.
This is a great opportunity for an individual to work with stakeholders and technical suppliers to create solutions to meet our long terms business needs.
Supporting with design, development, implementation and ‘go live’ activities you will collaborate with our transformation team and understand the challenges, considering and evaluating cost effectiveness to develop and verify solutions.
You will be responsible for
- Developing world class solutions and standards which support the delivery of the annual business plan for Automation Engineering
- Develop functional / design specifications to support the commercial tendering and contract discussions
- To understand technologies and how best to apply within Tesco to support the business plan
- Understanding equipment performance and working with colleagues to identify and explore root cause issues and creating proposals which inform short, medium and long term plans.
- Identifying ways to drive continuous improvement within automation equipment and systems; identify ways to deliver better, simpler and cheaper solutions
- Developing productive relationships with industry experts, colleagues and stakeholders (Distribution and Property) you will energise and influence others to get the job done and deliver great results.
- Working with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure the correct application of technical standards for automation equipment.
- Bringing technical innovation and new ideas to allow the business to stay up to date.
You will need
Previous experience as an Automation Engineer, you will ideally have a warehouse or distribution development background.
- A detailed understanding of automation plant and systems within the sector.
- A detailed understanding of end to end operations of distribution and fulfilment centres and application of automation to deliver benefits and savings.
- An open minded approach to innovation and the future needs of the business
- Experience of project design and delivery, writing user requirements and specifications in this sector.
- Good understanding of industry standards and relevant legislation.
- Understands Health & Safety and how to best approach specifications to deliver easy to maintain products.
