Delivering innovative step change, through new Technologies, automation and robotics.

We have a great Product, Engineering and Programme teams who are responsible for building the technology solutions needed to support and deliver the Store and Customer Fulfilment plan. The missing ingredient is you, a Technical Programme Manager who is able to work with multiple Product and Engineering teams to deliver and release value from our Fulfilment Platforms now and for the future.  Think you’re the person for the job, see below

You will be responsible for

Automation solutions are playing a greater role in the ever-changing fulfilment operating models to meet the challenge of reducing the operating costs in many industries. The highly competitive Tesco retail business is no different. Whilst specific implementations will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:

  • Deliver a portfolio of complex, large scale programmes with multiple business and technical risks that will impact the success of key Tesco business priorities
  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan
  • Manage dependencies across platform and technology teams to deliver transparency and visibility for key deliverables
  • Build positive relationships with supplier partners & internal/external stakeholders to deliver software, co-ordinate rollouts or installations, or professional services
  • Understand technology concepts, grasp new ones quickly and appreciate their implications on delivery
  • Proactively identify problems, working closely with Product and engineering teams to quantify their impact and prioritise fixes
  • Effectively manage incidents, ensuring stakeholders are updated with the right information to drive the correct decisions
  • Conduct Post incident reviews, effectively communicate the output and follow up on the next steps
  • Forecasting and managing the budgets for the projects in the portfolio
  • Line and Matrix managing the deliverables of 2/3 TPM’s
  • It will require an ability to multi-task and context switch with ease and building a strong technical understanding of the infrastructure architecture and knowledge of the operations the applications support
  • Initiate and shape programmes with ambiguous scope and uncertain delivery approach
  • Identifying, managing and taking risks to meet delivery timelines
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on programme delivery (mentoring other TPMs and supporting Engineering/Product teams)
  • Understand trade-offs in software delivery, using experience and influencing skills to drive consensus with the Engineering and Product teams to obtain the best value and solution

You will need

You should have demonstrated experience of:

  • A proven track record of delivering one of the following automation solutions in a variety of environments
    • ASRS
    • Goods to Person picking
    • Sortation
    • Multi-shuttles
    • Auto Guided Vehicles
    • Material Handling Equipment
  • Be able to assess the WMS implementation software stack standards and integration with the Tesco Enterprise API’s
  • Deploying both data-centre and distributed hardware solutions to support the automation
  • Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion and manage escalations
  • Able to understand a technical architecture to be able to foresee the impact on dependencies, delivery timelines and implementation plans
  • Have good knowledge of engineering best practices and practical infrastructure implementations to appreciate delivery challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience
  • The ability to influence without authority
  • Strong Project, Stakeholder & Programme management skills
  • Demonstrate resilience during development, incidents or change and continue delivery
  • Understanding of agile techniques to deliver world beating products
