About the role

The Infrastructure Delivery team manages the delivery of Infrastructure changes across Technology.  The work comes from other Infrastructure teams as Service Assurance initiatives or as Business Delivery requests from other Technology or business teams.

Service Assurance covers end of life management and necessary upgrades of existing IT infrastructure (networks, servers, storage, …) across our Data Centers, Head Offices, Depots and Stores to ensure supportability, sufficient systems availability, performance and capacity to run the business and support organic growth.

Examples of recent Service assurance projects

  • Stores bandwidth upgrades.
  • Depot WAN remediation.
  • Colleague and guest Wifi in Head Office resiliency.
  • Optimization of telephony accounts.

The majority of the Business Delivery work (approx. 80%) comes from the technology projects which require new Infrastructure or Infrastructure changes to deliver the business value. The remaining 20% of work is to provide the Infrastructure for new Innovations and trials driven by Tesco Lab, and to support the business with Office changes e.g. Heart building, Dundee renovation.

During a year the team works on over 200 different projects (with approx. 50 being progressed at any one time).

You will be responsible for

This Lead Technical Programme Manager role is to lead the Infrastructure Delivery Team in the UK and CE.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape a global team that works on Technology change across all of Tesco from Retail, Distribution and the Office.

The individual will be responsible for owning, leading and supporting the team to help deliver the necessary Infrastructure changes required to deliver our Technology Programme.

You will line manage a team of TPMs in the UK and CE. Your role will be to inspire and motivate the team and shape the future direction of the team.

You will own the process and pipeline of work in to Infrastructure, and will be expected to continually look for ways to drive process improvement that speed up the way that Infrastructure change is delivered at Tesco.

You will need

Lead Technical Programme Managers (TPMs) deliver complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering and broader business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.

Successful applicants

  • Will be confident to work independently with support from the Infrastructure senior technical programme managers and leadership team. 
  • Have experience of working with, influencing and challenging senior stakeholders, both inside and outside of Technology.
  • Bring together, coordinate and energise Technology, Procurement and wider Tesco teams to deliver programme goals.
  • Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals.
  • Will be responsible for managing the budget across UK and CE.
  • Understand trade-offs and resulting impacts; make impacts visible to Product, Infrastructure or Engineering for the right decision to be made.
  • Coach peers and other roles, teaching where required, on methodologies and programme management tools.
  • This role will suit an experienced and proven TPM looking to develop their leadership skills and expand their technology breadth.
