About the role

The team are at the forefront of the business and are the foundation of how Tesco delivers for customers and colleagues every day.

The trade planning team work alongside the buying and merchandise function to deliver exciting and market leading ranges for our customers on promotional and event space. allowing us to showcase fantastic product and pricing to the customer.

As an Assistant Trade Planner you will be directly shaping the promotional plan and helping to deliver the offers in store and on Tesco.com on time. You will work directly with the Category Proposition team to understand the customer need, shaping the brief for future events

You will be working across multiple functions and will need excellent communication skills

You will be responsible for

You will be a key part of the GM team, supporting with trade, promotional and events planning for my category, ensuring we deliver a great proposition for our customers, Tesco and suppliers.

  • Supporting your manager with the delivery of the category trade and events plan (incl. identifying new initiatives)
  • Recommending improvements to the promotional programme
  • Owning promotions for a defined product area, ensuring critical path is adhered to and communicating with the buying and merchandising category teams
  • Liaising with the Central Events team, keep the plan up to date
  • Briefing the POS team on GM trade plans by category
  • Running and reviewing the market report for key promotions events to identify improvements
  • Monitor competitor activity to ensure we are offering the best trade plan for our customers
  • Circulating product performance data to the category team, ensuring all documentation is up to date and accessible
  • Liaising with the GM Supply Chain team and Retails teams to ensure smooth implementation of trade plans and great customer experience
  • Ensuring all key initiatives are communicated clearly to customers and stores
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence
  • Building a relationship with a wider business such as the Marketing & Communications team as well as the relevant agencies
  • Being a point of contact for the General Merchandise events ensuring that products & execution is right for customer
  • Sharing news worthy stories about products with the press office so that we can communicate these stories with our customers
  • Coordinating the management of samples for photo shoots with the commercial teams (Buyers/Merchandisers)
  • Supporting on projects such as Christmas press events & the Christmas Gift Guide

You will need

You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:

  • Data analysis and numeracy skills
  • MS Office (esp. Excel)
  • Clear communication (including presentation skills)

  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.
