About the role

An exciting new role has been developed to develop and embed Key Controls and risk frameworks across our core People processes and systems. We are looking for a Risk & Controls Manager with a focus on Segregation of Duties (SOD) over and above the standard role.

You'll be supporting the People function achieve its objective by ensuring risks are proactively identified and are effectively managed. While the role itself has a entrepreneurial vibe associated with a new function, there is plenty of support, reference and guidance available from other similar functions such as Finance Group Controls as well as Group Risk.

The role will provide an opportunity to work with colleagues in various departments across the length and breadth of Tesco and be part of a new department within a large Plc. You’ll be expected to shape and support and strengthen the processes and associated technologies and participate in Risk related technology implementation with the team as well. You will be responsible for

  • Owning the design of the People controls framework across core HR processes (Example - Joiners, Movers, Leavers, Payroll Preparation etc.) for financial, operational and regulatory risks 
  • Developing and embedding controls for new processes in the People function
  • Continuous improvement and evolution of the People controls framework 
  • Designing a control self-assessment process for People controls
  • Running and reviewing second line of defence controls testing (design and operating effectiveness) of People controls
  • Manage the segregation of duties ruleset for the People function
  • Engaging with technology teams and product teams on IT General Controls for People applications
  • Engaging with other second line of defence teams across Tesco including Legal, Compliance and Security
  • Assisting with the preparation of senior management and Audit Committee reporting
  • Supporting Head of People Risk & Controls in undertaking any other ad hoc projects/duties as requested
  • Liaise with internal and external clients/auditors to resolve issues and next steps in a timely manner
  • Creating control KPI's to monitor control environment for the end to end process
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence

You will need

  • Expert knowledge of good practice payroll and related HR processes in a large, complex organisation
  • Internal Controls implementation and improvement
  • Knowledge of controls and risk
  • Knowledge of Segregation of Duty and sensitive data access principles
  • Auditing concepts and principles
  • Understand IT Controls incl. 3 lines of defence model
  • Strong working knowledge of Risks and Controls in a HR environment
  • Examining and re-engineering operations procedures, formulating policy and implementing controls
  • Providing technical guidance and deliver training to  end users
  • Data interrogation to identify issues, errors and fraud
  • CISA qualification preferred
  • Experience of working with Oracle Fusion preferred
